The power of the Word (Packer)

"Jesus then went into the wilderness; Lucifer came tempting Him. Jesus deflected each temptation with scripture. 'It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone.' 'It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.' 'It is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.' Think on it carefully. When facing Perdition himself, the Lord drew upon scriptures for protection. " President Boyd K. Packer,  April 2000 General Conference

Temptations

“Everyone is tested. One might think it is unfair to be singled out and subjected to a particular temptation, but this is the purpose of mortal life—to be tested. And the answer is the same for everyone: we must, and we can, resist temptations of any kind.”  ― President Boyd K. Packer

A Way Back

"If any has stumbled in his journey, there is a way back. The process is called repentance. Our Savior died to provide you and me that blessed gift. Though the path is difficult, the promise is real: 'Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow' (Isaiah 1:18)." Thomas S. Monson ,  "Preparation Brings Blessings," Ensign, May 2010, 66

Out of touch with modern life (Uchtdorf)

"Not all will follow the map [Heavenly Father has given us]. They may look at it. They may think it is reasonable, perhaps even true. But they do not follow the divine directions. Many believe that any road will take them to a 'happily ever after.' Some may even become angry when others who know the way try to help and tell them. They suppose that such advice is outdated, irrelevant, out of touch with modern life.... they suppose wrong." Dieter F. Uchtdorf ,  "Your Happily Ever After," Ensign, May 2010, 127

Don't fritter away your life (Monson)

"It is necessary to prepare, to plan, so that we don't fritter away our lives. Without a goal, there can be no real success. The best definition of success I have ever found goes something like this: Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal. Someone has said the trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never crossing the goal line." Thomas S. Monson ,  "Three Gates Only You Can Open," New Era, Aug. 2008, 2, 4

2 Nephi 2:5-7

5  And men are instructed sufficiently that they  a know  good from evil. And the  b law  is given unto men. And by the law no flesh is  c justified ; or, by the law men are  d cut  off. Yea, by the temporal law they were cut off; and also, by the spiritual law they perish from that which is good, and become miserable forever.   6  Wherefore,  a redemption  cometh in and through the  b Holy   c Messiah ; for he is full of  d grace  and truth.   7  Behold, he offereth himself a  a sacrifice  for sin, to answer the ends of the law, unto all those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit; and unto  b none  else can the  c ends  of the law be answered.   8  Wherefore, how great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth, that they may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God,  a save  it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah, who  b layeth  down his life according to the flesh, and taketh it ag
